Saw this coming a mile away as I was doing my nightly reads; Shane got tagged by Andy, who then tagged Angel, who then tagged me. The funny thing for me, for as long as I’ve been online, this is the first meme I’ve ever done online (well, not counting the round robin emails that were popular years ago). The rules, so far as I’ve read them, is that I’m supposed to list seven random or weird facts about myself and then tag seven other people. That being the extent of the requisite preamble:

  1. When I was sixteen, a friend showed me how to ride his motorcycle - everything but the brakes. I drove out of his backyard in full view of my dad, my brother, and my kid sister straight into oncoming traffic at 50+ mph. I don’t remember hitting the pickup truck, but I do remember coming to hearing some woman screaming “He’s dead!” and replying “No, I’m not” from underneath a car’s right side (the tire was a couple of inches from my head). The rear axle of the bike entered between my left Achilles tendon and the ankle, the chain wrapped around the ankle and snapped it in three places and yet my glasses landed intact in the grass of the yard I’d exited moments before, and I suffered no injuries to the head though I wore no helmet.
  2. While I can play nearly any musical instrument I set my mind to learn (I’ve been called a human jukebox by some musician friends), I can neither read sheet music nor whistle a melody.
  3. My favorite meal to fix for others is Beef Stroganoff - all fresh ingredients, made from scratch.
  4. I can still recite most of Die Lorelei nearly 40 years since taking German in High School.
  5. While playing in a lounge band in my twenties, while in Cleveland, Ohio, we partied with members of Journey and ELO, and were invited to play soccer in Browns Stadium as the World Series of Rock concert they were in town to play had the stage setup - still have the pictures of the flying saucer being set up while we’re kicking a soccer ball around.
  6. I once hitchhiked from Framingham, Massachusetts down to Naples, Florida, back up the Gulf coast side to I-10, out to New Mexico, back across Texas on I-10 and I-20, ending up in Norfolk, VA - where I then “hitched” a ride on a destroyer going up to Boston. Total time gone? Three weeks.
  7. I cry at movies - sometimes over things others might not get or in movies where it might be a bit unexpected. AI - Artificial Intelligence is an example of this. Perhaps I need treatment? A support group? A syndrome named after me?

I’ll tag my seven people later - it’s 3:35 AM, and I need to get to bed. Look for the updates…

UPDATE: OK, I’m tagging Dave, Kweisi, Monica, Les, Jen, Dan, and Chad to respond (or not) as they see fit… and for the record? This was fun, but let’s not play tag like this too often - my brain cramped up on this stuff g1

Ok. Part one of my assignment is done. Now I need to figure out who to tag. After supper though... The homemade pea soup is almost done (if only I could post a link to a scent...)

By the way, did you get a response from any of the others you tagged?
  • I haven't seen one yet besides yours, faithful reader :) That may change as folks get back from vacations and the like. Quite a few others got involved in this particular game of tag, from reading back through the links.

    Homemade pea soup...biscuits...a touch of butter...Yvonne cooking...I'm there! :)

Is that a meme? Or am I just out of the loop?

I'm weird with the crying thing too; I get choked up when listening to the radio and they play one of those OnStar commercials. I'd never be able to work as a 911 dispatcher. Or maybe I'd just get numb to it all. Either way, not happening.
  • Yep, and yes, you've been tagged - I'd have tagged Deane as well, but I didn't think he'd go for it :)

So, what exactly is expected of one who has been tagged? You said something about tagging seven others; do they need to blog their response? What if they don't blog?

    So many questions...
  • If they blog, and if they see that they've been linked to this post, and if they choose to respond, it will be a post like this one. If they don't blog - in this case, all of those I've tagged have blogs. Who you tag is up to you :)

Tagged? Is that kinda like what they do to cattle in a feedlot? Not really into piercings, dude. ;)
  • Too funny for text alone - I'll riposte Sunday :)
  • That syndrome needs to be named after both of us! I can cry at a commercial and have many, many times. The news, movies, songs, etc. I have it bad!

The only thing I didn't like about this meme is that I already have a 100 Things page that lists 100 things about me. It is hard coming up with seven more! LOL
  • Commercials, I might cry at how badly done something was :)

Movies have that effect on me, as does music. News stories have done it - but I'll never do an "Everything odd about me that you didn't know before" page like yours - too shy, maybe? :D
